Typhoid Fever

  • Causative agent: Feces of an infected person or salmonella enterica enterica
  • Type of causative agent: Bacteria
  • Symptoms include:First week- Fever, profuse sweating, a rash of flat, rose colored dots on skin, nose bleeds, abdomonal pain, headache and cough. Second week- High fever, delirium, Diarrhea. Third week- Intestinal hemorrhage, Intestinal perforation, neuropsychiatric symptoms.
  • Treatment include: many different antibiotics or oral rehydration therapy.
  • Prevention: Sanitation and hygiene are the critical measures that can be taken to prevent typhoid. Careful food preparation and washing of hands are crucial to preventing typhoid.
  • Lifecylce: No vectors, The mode of transmission is human to human because animals cant get Typhoid fever.
  • More likely to get Typhoid fever in Nigeria than in the US because of the unsanitary conditions, but still both countries have cases.
